Jay brings a unique blend of expertise in technology and psychology to his work as a clinical psychologist. With two Master’s degrees in Communication and Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Jay has a deep understanding of human behavior and mental health.

Jay has extensive experience providing individual, couples, and family therapy in various settings, including outpatient clinics, residential treatment centers, and state mental hospitals.
He has also managed mental health treatment programs and served as a psychologist for the state of Washington. His academic research career has explored topics such as jury decision making, subliminal processing, and hypnosis, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and citations in psychology textbooks.
Technology Expertise
Jay has a 19-year background in User Experience, with 17 years of experience managing design and research teams. He has worked with top companies like Microsoft, Expedia, and Sage, leading teams across five countries as Global Director of User Experience Design and Research. His expertise spans software, hardware, and consumer products and services.
Returning to Clinical Practice
After a successful career in tech, Jay has returned to clinical practice to provide cutting-edge services to tech workers facing unique challenges such as anxiety, depression, burnout, stress management, and other life issues. His distinctive blend of psychology and tech expertise makes him an ideal therapist for individuals navigating the tech industry.
Research Expertise:
Jay also has had an extensive research career that has explored diverse topics including jury decision making, and subliminal processing and hypnosis. He has published research in peer-reviewed journals and his papers have been cited over 300 times, including in many textbooks. In the tech world, he has managed User Research teams for 17 years.

Clinical Training and Experience:
My experience and training has been diverse and have expertise with individual, couples and family therapy. Psychological assessment, including forensic evaluations. He has extensive Expertise in Hypnosis, including using hypnosis and related techniques with over 1000 people. And his dissertation was on the topic of hypnosis and involved hypnotizing 61 people.
Jay’s clinical work includes the following types of settings:
- Western State Hospital – one of the largest mental hospitals in the US
- Dept of Social and Human Services (DSHS) – Special Commitment Cetner
- Department of Corrections – Special Offender Center. Managed treatment program for a 32 bed unit in a larger prison
- Charter Behavioral Hospital (the largest private psychiatric hospital system in the US at the time). Provided individual therapy and assessment. Also led 3 cognitive behavioral classes each week teaching CBT skills for anxiety, depression and relaxation.
- Sanctuary House, a residential treatment – program in Santa Barbara, CA.
- Multiple community agencies providing therapy for individuals couples and families
- Served as a psychological consultant to a HeadStart program
